Po wydaniu Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 w 2023 roku tytuł jednoznacznie wskazywał, że Konami planuje także nad pakietem Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. W pierwszej części otrzymaliśmy dostęp do takich gier, jak: Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty oraz Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Z kolei w skład drugiej wchodzą odświeżone wersje Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots i Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
W związku z powyższym Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, które pierwotnie ukazało się na PlayStation 3, a także Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker udostępnione wyłącznie na PlayStation Portable (a z czasem także w wersji HD na PlayStation 3), po wielu latach od premiery doczekały się zremasterowanych wersji adresowanych nie tylko do właścicieli konsol Sony (w tym przypadku mowa wyłącznie o PlayStation 5), ponieważ Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 opracowano także z myślą o właścicielach Xbox Series X/S, Switch oraz PC.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 zawiera ponadto Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, czyli poboczną odsłonę cyklu z Game Boy Color oferującą dostęp do alternatywnej historii Solida Snake’a z akcją osadzoną siedem lat po wydarzeniach w Outer Heaven.
